McNamara, Bernard JosephP. Eng., B. Sc. (Mechanical Engineering), M.B.A.
October 18, 1932 - November 23, 2024
He has clipped his last comic, played Happy Birthday on the tuba, sang the Baloney song, and taken sole control of the TV remote for the final time.
On November 23, 2024 Bernard passed away peacefully.
Bernard was the third of seven children born to Lillian and Alphonsus McNamara. The family eventually settled in Windsor, Ontario where Bernard met and married Diana Powell (predeceased 2004) with whom he would have four children; Patricia (Paul), Catherine (Mark), Margaret, predeceased 2024, (Joe), and Bernard (Cindy).
Following a career mostly involved in the automotive industry in Windsor and Detroit, Bernard retired to his beloved cottage on Wahnekewening Beach. There he enjoyed the natural beauty of the shores of Georgian Bay and the company of many friends and family. Proud grandfather and great grandfather, Bernard avidly followed the antics and life journeys of all.
Following major heart surgery at the age of 85, Bernard agreed that the worst of the winter months should be spent with the patient and caring staff at Georgian Village in Penetanguishene. At the age of 91 he reluctantly agreed that driving was no longer the best of ideas. Never one to complain about his personal trials Bernard stoically faced the trials of aging with humour and forbearance.
A funeral Mass will take place at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church in Perkinsfield on Thursday November 28, 2024 starting at 10 am. Visitation at the church will take place one hour prior to the Mass from 9 am to 10 am. Interment will take place at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Perkinsfeild in the spring of 2025. For those who wish, donations may be made to the Ontario SPCA and Humane Society. Arrangements entrusted to Carson Funeral Home – J.H. Lynn Chapel (705) 526-6551. Nov 28, 2024Our deepest condolences to Bernie's family at this sad time. We were honored to know Bernie through his lovely daughter Margaret and wonderful husband Joe. We spent many vacations together in Playa Del Carmen and attended several family gatherings at Joe and Margaret's. He was a great story teller and had a fantastic sense of humor. He was always sharp and spry and appeared to be functionally younger than his actual age. I'm sure that the loss of his daughter Margaret, only 9 weeks ago, broke his heart, but now they are happily re-united....remaining forever young in heaven's bliss.
