Harry passed away peacefully on August 22, 2024 in his 83rd year. Loving brother to Ruth Newhall (Earl predeceased) and Bill Mason (Sandy). Proud “Uncle Pete” to Leslie, Cindy, Brent (predeceased), Ryan, Shannon, Glenn and Michael, and Great Uncle Pete to Morgan, Chas and Ethan. He was predeceased by his parents Jack and Anita, his sisters Sharon and Sally and his brother John.Harry was a gentleman who was kind, caring and generous. Reading, listening to classical music, watching baseball and hockey, playing cards and going to the casino were among the many things he enjoyed. In his younger years, Harry enjoyed playing baseball, fishing and going to theater and ballet productions while living in Toronto. Harry had a love of the outdoors and spent many hours at the picnic table outside of his apartment or at Couchiching Park while enjoying being near the water while chatting with friends. He also enjoyed his Starbucks coffee, Thai food, ice cream and chocolate bars- oh did he love his chocolate. Harry was always willing to offer a helping hand to friends and family and his kindness and gentle smile will never be forgotten. His friends described him as authentic, beautifully kind and he was admired for his ability to effortlessly make people feel important. His family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to Doctors Ng and Tam at RVH and to Dr. McIntosh and her staff at Couchiching Family Health Team, Bayshore Nursing, his care team at Ontario Health at Home and to all of the staff who cared for him at Birchmere Retirement Residence. Thank you to Brian Gibb and Robert Curran. To the staff at Happy at Home who organized care and assisted Harry for the last six months - his family cannot quite put into words how much your compassionate dedication to Harry's care was appreciated. Harry was so grateful to everyone who cared for and supported him.Following Harry's wishes, cremation has already taken place. Interment at Fairview Cemetery in Niagara Falls will be planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Harry's memory to The Orillia District Arts Council would be gratefully appreciated by the family. Harry would also love for you to honour his memory by enjoying a coffee or an ice cream cone while catching up with a friend you haven't seen in a while.Arrangements entrusted to the Doolittle Chapel of Carson Funeral Homes 54 Coldwater St. E., Orillia (705) 326-3595

Sep 1, 2024Last year we made Harry our customer of the year. This was because he was always so kind, generous, and a true gentleman! We always took the time to chat. We phoned him to check in on him and will honor his wishes to make a donation to the arts. He was so supportive of the talented artists I work with. He will be missed. From all the ladies at The Shadowbox Art and Framing in Orillia. Condolences to his family

Aug 28, 2024I met Harry a few months ago , filling in on a weekend shift with Happy at Home. It’s said that In life different people will cross our path , if we are lucky we will encounter those who make an impact, even if our time together is short. Harry, you have done so for me. What a special person you are who lights up the room. It was my absolute pleasure spending time with you along with providing you the care you deserved. It was an honour spending time with you in some of your final days. And Harry, I won’t let you down, I’ll write that book. Thank you for your beautiful encouragement ♥️ Be at peace my friend. Comfort and peace to all his family 🙏
