Remembering Jan Gallagher

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jan Gallagher. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on January 6, 2023  at Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital at age 85. He was the beloved husband of Carole for 60 years. Loving and supportive father of Julie (Chris), David, and proud and devoted “papa” to Isaac , Adam, Olivia and Riley. Predeceased by his parents Rev. David H. and Ella Gallagher and brother Melville (Ruth) Gallagher. Fondly remembered by his brother in law Don (Carol) Wallace, sister in laws Suzanne (late Willard) Wallace, Barbara Tomori and Carol (late Doug) Wallace. Sadly missed and always remembered by his dear nieces and nephew.

Jan graduated from the University of Toronto and then pursued a 41 year managerial career in the food industry, which started in Oakville, lead to Chatham and concluded in Kitchener. He spent summers at the family cottage in Port Elgin and later in Kincardine. He was an avid boater (Power Squadron instructor), golfer and model railroad enthusiast. He will be remembered most for his warmth, kindness and endearing love for his family. His greatest joy came from spending time with his grandchildren and chasing them around the province, watching them play hockey.

The family will receive guests at the Doolittle Chapel of Carson Funeral Homes 54 Coldwater St. East, Orillia, Ontario 705-326-3595 on Saturday January 14, 2023 from 2pm to 5pm and the following day, Sunday January 15, from 10am until the time we celebrate Jan’s life in the chapel starting at 12pm. A reception luncheon will follow the service. Interment at Park Lawn Cemetery in Toronto will take place at a later date. Please note the service will be live streamed and available to watch on Carson Funeral Home’s You Tube channel at live link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iVcgExRO0i4
