Remembering Ivan Elwood Carter

Carter, Ivan Elwood

Dec 2, 1926 – Sept 14, 2021

Peacefully passed, surrounded by the love of his family at Orillia Soldier’s Memorial Hospital. He was the beloved husband of the late Wilma Marguerite Isobel Carter of Severn Township for over 61 years and loving father to Ann (husband John Jaworski), Larry, Brenda (husband Jim O’Sullivan), Linda (partner Dan), Karen (husband Terry Walker), Tracey (husband Steve Stayen) and Glen (wife Angelica). Cherished grandfather of Jordan Jermey, Eryn (Jermey) Spetter (Matthew) , Kyle Walters (Laura), Garrett Walters (Sarah), Ben Walters (Heather), John Whitney (Sabrina), Jake Whitney, Jared Whitney, Justin Hodgkinson (Mandy), Lauren Tanner, Reece Stayen, Amber Stroop, Miranda Carter and Richard Carter. Great grandfather of 11. Dear brother of Doreen Walker (husband Bruce). Ivan loved spending time out of doors, working in his garden and enjoying the peace and quiet of his yard. He had a keen interest in science and nature which he shared with his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed researching and discussing the latest advancements in science and technology.  Maintaining his bird feeders and watching the many species of birds visiting brought him joy and he participated in the annual bird count. He used his sense of humour and musical talents to entertain many who came to know him including writing a song for the staff and patients during a hospital stay.  His calm and gentle presence will be missed.

As per Ivan’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of his life will be planned for future.  Arrangements entrusted to Doolittle Chapel of Carson Funeral Homes, 54 Coldwater St. E., Orillia (705) 326-3595.
