Following a six year battle with cancer, Rick passed away at his Chateau in Penetanguishene on the evening of October 31, 2013 with his wife Jane and children Sarah, Ryan and Jenny, and puppy Milo by his side. Rick was known for his sense of humor, his love of family, music, teaching, and The Toronto Maple Leafs. Having taught for over thirty years he had a profound impact on countless students and teachers. He was respected for his innovative teaching methods, often incorporating many of his interests into his lessons– Music, Theatre, Sports, and in 1991 was awarded ‘Teacher of the Year’ by the provincial teachers’ federation. His involvement with children extended beyond the classroom, coaching various school teams and directing school plays and concerts. Summers spent at the family cottage on Georgian Bay were the setting of some of his fondest memories with his favourite mother in law and dear cottage neighbours, Auntie Hy and Uncle Ross. Although his family roots were in Bobcaygeon, he adopted Georgian Bay as his home upon retirement. He will be missed by his sister Lori Rogers (Wayne Swinamer) and his close friend Henry Schmidt. His passing is a significant loss to many extended family and friends, who were so important to him. Our family Sunday dinners will never be the same without our chef.
If desired, memorial donations to the Sunnybrook Odette Cancer Centre, or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated and accepted by the J.H. Lynn Chapel of Carson Funeral Homes, 290 First St., Midland Ontario, 705-526-6551. Online Condolences are welcome at www.carsonfuneralhomes.com
