Remembering Michael John Simms 'Mike'

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Michael John Simms, known to many as Mickey, on October 28, 2026.

Mike was born in Haliburton on May 27, 1949. Although he was raised in Toronto, he spent his summers at the cottage in West Guilford. There was no place he would rather be. On April 18, 1970, Mike married the love of his life, Mariangela (Mari) Nadalin, and together they decided to move up north to raise their family in Haliburton. Mike and Mari later moved to Warminster in 2014.

Mike is survived by his mother, Corinne Simms; his loving wife of 56 years, Mari Simms; his daughters Tracy Greenfield (Erin) and Michelle Simms (James Nightingale); and his five grandchildren Nadalin, Noal, Will, Talia, and Finn. He was preceded in death by his father, Carl Simms, and his brother, Gary Simms. His family was at the heart of his life, and he will be lovingly remembered by them.

Mike was a true outdoorsman. He loved to fish and hunt - moose, deer, turkey, lake trout, pickerel - he was up for it. He was happiest when he was outdoors. He loved studying maps, exploring lakes, fishing trips, and spending hunting season at the camp. Mike was also widely known for his ability to take a high-risk tree down safely.

Mike will be remembered for his loyalty, integrity, his deep connection to Haliburton, his cheeky smile, and his many friendships. In all his travels, every stranger was a new potential friend. He leaves behind a lifetime of stories and countless memories that will live on in those who loved him.

Mike’s family would like to thank all of the staff at Leacock Care Centre in Orillia for their exemplary care and kindness.

As expressions of sympathy, donations can be made to the Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital Foundation in lieu of flowers. At Mike’s request, no funeral will be held. The family will be planning a private interment on November 12, 2026.
