Malone: Daphne (née Aird)
Born July 26, 1936 in Carlisle, England, lived a life filled with energy, curiosity, and deep affection for the people around her. She was the last surviving sibling of ten children, a testament to her resilience and the vibrant nature that carried her through life. Adventurous from the beginning, she moved from England to Canada on her own, building a full and joyful life and eventually meeting her husband, Terence Talbot Malone, whom she outlived with enduring strength and grace.
Daphne was active and spirited, happiest outdoors or on the water. Her two greatest passions were golf — which she enjoyed right up until the end — and gardening, where she spent countless hours tending her plants or simply appreciating the beauty she created. She embraced each day with enthusiasm and found joy in painting, playing piano, and reading; when she had a good book in hand, the world had to wait until she reached the last page.
Warm, caring, and endlessly considerate, Daphne always looked for the best in people. She welcomed friendships from all walks of life and was loved by many.
Her greatest joy came from her family, especially her granddaughters. Daphne loved spending time with Spencer and Sara — teaching them new things, sharing her interests, or simply enjoying their company. They brought her deep happiness, and she cherished every moment with them.
Daphne is survived by her daughters Diane Malone (Brian Litwiller) and Maureen Malone Carter (Doug Carter), her granddaughters Spencer and Sara Carter, and her beloved dog, Storm.
Her love of life, family, and friends will be remembered always.

Aug 31, 2026My heartfelt condolences to all of you, Diane, Maureen, Spencer, Sara and Doug. I met Daphne sometime during the Fall of 2020. Since then, she has been a loved part of my life. Her moving from Jackson’s Point to Orillia didn’t change a thing … other than she was just a bit farther away. But still just a car ride! The last time Daphne and I spoke was filled with “next time” plans. I am grateful that the chat ended with exchanged blowing kisses and a cheerful wave. I loved everything about her: her spunk, her independent spirit, her creativity and joy for life, curiosity, and her deep love and care for her family and friends. Her wonderful sense of humour, sometimes her ‘English’ quirkiness, her impish smile, and her heartfelt giggle, that turned into a genuine laugh. I am eternally grateful to have been her friend.

Aug 29, 2026I can honestly say that no encounter with Daphne resulted in anything but feelings of fondness nor were they ever absent of laughter. Joyous and giving in nature, her life will always be a reminder to me that the brighter side of living is all in how you live it. I remember being in the boathouse next to the Malone boathouse when the roar of an engine followed by a crashing, crunching cacophony of sounds of splintering wood and grinding fibreglass occurred. Jumping up to see what had happened, I looked, to my amazement to see the bow of Peggy’s jet boat protruding through the wall of the boathouse. Daphne had somehow selected forward instead of reverse when entering the boathouse and confidently stepped on the accelerator pedal expecting to slow the boat but instead driving it with vigorous astonishment right up and through the end wall. Even this catastrophic episode would be a source of laughter in later years. The immediate void left in the world without Daphne’s bright spirit will soon enough be filled with the knowledge that memories of her will never fade and the brightness can be shared by all. Rest in peace, Daphne, you are much loved.

Since I was a child, going to the sailing parties at the house, Daphne has always made me feel welcome with effortlessly ease. Now she can reunite with all the old guard from the Briars and the JPYC.
