Remembering John McLean

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John McLean.

Born in Glasgow, Scotland, John made Orillia, Ontario his home for most of his life. John's greatest love was his family. He was the beloved husband of Maureen, a loving father to Darren (wife Dana), and a proud Grandad to Molly, Carter, Parker, and Emelyn, who brought him endless pride and joy.

John is lovingly remembered by his brothers, David and Ronald, and was predeceased by his brother, Frank. He will also be deeply missed by his nieces, nephews and their children, all of whom he loved dearly

John will be remembered for his quick wit, dry Scottish humour, and honest nature. He was never one for fuss, but his love for his family was unwavering.

A lifelong Celtic FC supporter, John loved football and spent many years coaching the game he loved.

John always did things on his own terms. Somehow, it seems fitting that he waited until the final whistle of the World Cup before saying goodbye.

Here's tae John—may there aye be a seat at the bar, a match on the telly.

A special thank you to the paramedics, doctors and nursing staff of OSMH for the excellent care John received.

Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Life will be held at the Carson Funeral Home L. Doolittle Chapel, 54 Coldwater St. E., Orillia (705) 3595 on Wednesday August 12, 2026 from 4-6 P.M.
