Elizabeth “Ann” Elliott died peacefully at Spencer House in Orillia on July 3, 2026 at the age of 96.
Ann was born on September 28, 1929 to Bertha and Horace Wood in Toronto, but was raised by her mother Bertha and adoptive grandmother, Mrs Julia Alley. She married C.W. Miller Elliott on September 17, 1954 and they had two children together, Bruce and Janet.
Throughout her life, Ann was very active in her church and community. She and Miller were founding members of Northminster United Church in North York, as well as its Couples’ Club. She was an active member of various crafting groups, UCW chapters, genealogy organizations, and charitable causes. When Janet’s Girl Guide Company needed a leader, she stepped up and kickstarted over 40 years involvement with Girl Guides of Canada. When the COVID pandemic shuttered her in-person groups, Ann quickly adapted to online engagement, despite being in her 90s.
She loved spending time outdoors skiing, camping, canoeing, sailing, hiking, biking, and gardening. Throughout her life, Ann lived in North Toronto, North York, Ajax, and finally Orillia, but for over 60 years she spent summers at her Muskoka cottage on Pine Lake in Bracebridge. She and Miller cleared the water-access crown land themselves and built the original cottage with help from friends.
While Ann had many hobbies and interests, her greatest love was the time she spent with her family and friends. Ann is survived by son Bruce (Karen), daughter Janet, grandchildren Graeme and LeeAnn, and great-granddaughter Arwen. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Miller.
The family will hold a private memorial per Ann’s wishes. Those wishing to celebrate Ann’s life are encouraged to spend time outdoors with loved ones in her memory. Memorials or donations may be made to either Orillia Public Library or your local library.
