Carl Raymond “Ray” Cronmiller, of Orillia, Ontario, passed away at the age of 94. Born on July 27, 1931, in Williamsburg, Ontario, Ray was the son of Reverend Carl and Martha Cronmiller.
Ray is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Leona Cronmiller, with whom he shared 51 beautiful years of marriage, and by his sister, Faith Lois Witt. He was predeceased by his brothers John and Vern, and his sisters Shirley Taylor and Beverly Ziegel. He will also be deeply missed by his many cherished nieces and nephews, all of whom held a special place in his heart.
Ray lived a full and vibrant life marked by curiosity, independence, and a deep love for family. He attended radio college and went on to enjoy a long and successful career with IBM, where he worked with computers for more than 27 years. Bright and endlessly resourceful, Ray had a remarkable ability to understand and repair just about anything—whether in his own home or helping others.
His father was his greatest inspiration, shaping the values and character that Ray carried throughout his life. He was a proud and dedicated member of the Theta of Salon Omega fraternity for over 70 years.
Ray and Leona shared a true love story spanning more than five decades. Together, they built a life filled with adventure, companionship, and joy. They loved to travel, with one of Ray’s fondest memories being their trip to New Zealand. They also treasured their time spent in Texas visiting friends and their retirement years on Brandy Lake and in Milford Bay, where they formed lasting memories.
A social and engaging man, Ray loved conversation and storytelling. He and Leona spent many happy years line dancing, surrounded by a wide circle of friends. Ray was fiercely independent, continuing to live in their own home and still driving the car—something he took great pride in, often noting his “millions of miles” of driving experience.
He was a lifelong learner who enjoyed solving problems and embracing new challenges. Ray was also a dedicated family man, maintaining close relationships with his siblings and serving as a caring, supportive uncle who was always willing to lend a hand.
A small gathering of close family and friends will be held at the time of interment this summer (2026) at St. Andrew’s St. James’ Cemetery. Ray will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ray’s memory to a charity of your choice.
Arrangement entrusted to Carson Funeral Homes L. Doolittle Chapel, 54 Coldwater St. E., Orillia (705) 326-3595.
