Mary Milka (Millie) Vesel was born on July 28, 1931, in Noranda, Quebec. Her parents were Joesph and Angela Vessel, who came to Canada from Ljubljana Slovenia, then called Yugoslavia. Millie was the first of three children. She had a brother Joe (pre-deceased) and a sister Angie. She grew up in in Larder Lake, Ontario where her father worked in a nearby gold mine. The household regularly took on boarders to help with the expenses. Any surplus money was sent back to Yugoslavia to help extended family during World War II. Millie graduated from high school in Kirkland Lake, Ontario. She went to work in Niagara Falls for a short period of time and then returned to Kirkland Lake to work as an admin assistant at North Star Plumbing. It was there she met her future husband, Keith Ferguson. They were married on August 7, 1954. They moved to Toronto where they raised four sons. Millie worked for a variety of fashion retailers enabling her to share her love for clothing and socializing. She later combined her sales skills and social charms to sell cosmetics for Mary Kay. Millie loved social gatherings. She was renowned for her cooking and her love of dance. In their later years, (2018 until 2022) Millie and Keith resided at the Kingsmere Assistance Living Residence in Alliston, Ontario. Keith passed away in 2020. Millie moved to “The Villa” in Midland, Ontario in 2024 where she received excellent care for her remaining years. She passed away peacefully on April 11, 2026. Millie is survived by her sister Angie, her four sons, Bill (Janette), Joey (Lynn) Donnie (Emma), Gary (Loren), seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren and one great, great, grand child. Guests will be received at Carson Funeral Homes – J.H. Lynn Chapel, 290 First St. in Midland (705) 526-6551 on Friday, April 17, with visitation starting at 12 pm until the time we celebrate her life in the chapel starting at 2 pm. A reception luncheon will follow onsite. Burial will take place on Saturday, April 18 at Beechwood Cemetery, 7241 Jane St. in Concord at 11am. Following the burial, all are welcome to join the family for lunch at the Mandarin Resturant located at 8787 Weston Rd., Vaughan, ON L4L 0C3.
