Remembering Mr. Donald Ernest Shipton 'Don'

(Former School Teacher with the Simcoe County Board of Education, Volunteer at Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital and Proud Member of the Georgian Bay British Car Club)

Died suddenly at the age of 68 on Tuesday September 10, 2013 on one of his favourite trails, while ‘in training’ for the upcoming Terry Fox Run this weekend – doing something he loved. It would have been his 33rd Run. Don Shipton of Orillia, loving companion of Carol Agnew. Cherished dad to Christopher Shipton (Lauren Michell) of Toronto. Loved 'Papa Don' to Lauren & Carter Shipton. Survived by his sister Anne Stewart (Rod) of British Columbia. Don will be missed by many nieces and nephews, family members and good friends, too. Among Don’s favourite things were spending time with his grandkids at the cottage, cheering both them and his son on at their ski races at Craigleith, dancing on stage with Chubby Checker at Casino Rama, taking his 1974 Jaguar E Type out for a spin, hanging out with his furry friends Wiskers and Davis, trying to keep those darn squirrels out of the attic up north – and enjoying long walks, interesting travels and lovely, daily moments with his loving partner in life, Carol. Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Don’s life will be held on Friday September 20th, between 2 – 4 pm at the Old Rectory Reception Centre, 57 Neywash St. Orillia, Ontario. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Terry Fox Foundation would be appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to the Doolittle Chapel of Carson Funeral Homes, 54 Coldwater St. E. Orillia, (705) 326-3595.
