Lorna Rose Annis (née Johnson)
March 2, 1940 – January 8, 2026
Her family announces the peaceful end to a life well lived.
She was born Lorna Rose Johnson at Bracebridge Memorial Hospital to Clarice (Colson) and Carey Johnson of Uffington, ON. She enjoyed growing up with a large extended family in the Muskoka area.
On October 1, 1958, she wed Frederick Burnett and moved to Ardtrea where they built their home, the home she lived in for the next 63 years. They had two children – Marjorie Burnett and Murray Burnett. She was widowed in 1966.
On June 15, 1968, Lorna took Beverly Annis to be her husband, and Vicki Annis and Karl Annis to be her children. Together Lorna and Bev raised their four children; a job that she said brought her the greatest enjoyment. Their journey together lasted for 53 years when she was widowed again in 2021.
Her daughter Marjorie Ann Burnett predeceased her in 2022.
Lorna had a career as station operator with the Orillia Police Force. Her excellent work ethic and admiration for her were acknowledged at her retirement. The feelings were mutual and those colleagues remained important to her for the rest of her life.
All who knew her would agree that she was a genuinely kind and caring person.
In April 2021, Lorna moved to Atrium Retirement Residence. She embraced her new home and the staff and residents became another family to her. She became so involved in all the activities that it was hard to find time in her busy schedule to visit with her. In recent days while in hospital she expressed how much she was missing them as well as Don and Jean Hills, who were regular entertainers at Atrium. Murray, Karl and Vicki extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Atrium for the love and excellent care you provided for nearly five years.
We also thank the staff at Orillia Soldiers' Memorial Hospital for the compassion, care and comfort provided in her final days.
A Celebration of Life date will be announced.
If desired, memorial donations may be made to Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital Foundation and will be received by Carson Funeral Homes – L. Doolittle Chapel, 54 Coldwater St. E., Orillia, Ontario L3V 6H9. (705) 326-3595.

Jan 11, 2026I first met Lorna while taking a secretarial course. We graduated at the same time, and soon after, both worked at the Orillia City Police Station. Lorna was a joy to be around. She was quiet, but always had that beautiful smile and gentle nature. I am so glad we had a nice visit this fall, so many years later. My sincere condolences to Lorna's family.
