It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Dwight Cockburn born June 12th 1968 to November 12th 2025. Loving husband to Gail Cockburn (Gilsenan) and loving father to Victoria and Vanessa.
Dwight was born to Eric (deceased) and Marilyn (deceased) Cockburn. He was the baby of the family and will be missed by his sister Karen (Gord) Uren, his brothers Dale (Glenna) Cockburn and brother Don (deceased) (Tina) Cockburn. He will be missed by his many nieces and nephews Robert (Jessica), Kristen (Andrew), Micheal (Yin), Stephanie, Eric (Karina), Samantha (Matt), Adam and Benjamin. He will also be missed by his in laws Charlie and Ann Gilsenen, his sister in law Lynn Wiltshire (Rob) and nephews Tyler and Matthew. Plus the many close family friends and business acquaintances over the years.
Dwight was born and raised in Orillia where he and his brother Dale took over their father’s company Eric Cockburn Refrigeration Limited. Dwight worked alongside his brother Dale for almost 40 years until they sold the company and retired in March 2022.
Dwight was a funny, hard working, outgoing and kind hearted man. You could always find Dwight at the golf course, the Army Navy or see him driving down the street in his Cockburn truck. The more bizarre the story he would tell, the truer it was. Never a dull moment with Dwight.
Dwight fought a tough battle with cancer and COPD. But unfortunately when the pain was too much, he decided it was time to say goodbye to the people that he loved the most. He passed away peacefully at home surrounded by love.
Dwight wanted to especially thank Dr. Brad Perrigo for all his help over the years as well as the Mariposa House Hospice.
A celebration of life will take place on Sunday, November 23rd from 1 to 5 at the Orillia Army Navy. A private internment will take place in Orillia at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Sharing Place and Mariposa House Hospice.
Arrangements entrusted to Carson Funeral Homes L. Doolittle Chapel, 54 Coldwater St. E., Orillia (705) 326-3595.

Nov 15, 2025My deepest condolences to the Cockburn family. Dwight was a good friend when we were in our late teens…so many decades ago. We spent lots of time skiing at Hoseshoe and Medonte in the winters and on the boat in the summer. Dwight liked to have fun and was always entertaining!! I don’t recall a dull moment, he always rode on the edge of life. His presence was always appreciated amongst his friends and he is remembered fondly.
