Robert Douglas Rudd
After a valiant battle with Dementia, Robert Douglas Rudd passed away peacefully at Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital in his 77th year of life on October 19, 2025.
Beloved husband to Linda for 52 years. Loving and devoted father to Andrew (Nicole). Proud grandfather of Autumn. Fondly loved by his sisters Ruth (John), Betty (Bob), Sharon (Merv), as well as his nieces, nephews, and many dear friends and former colleagues.
Robert was born September 29, 1949, in Swift Current, Saskatchewan.
After completing post-secondary education at Eastern Pentecostal Bible College and Ryerson Polytechnical Institute, Robert entered the field of broadcast journalism working for radio and TV news stations in southern Ontario for 16 years. He was a field reporter, TV news anchorman, and Vice President of News and Information at CHEX TV in Peterborough.
In 1988 Robert joined the Ontario Provincial Police Corporate Communications Bureau where he worked as a media projects officer until his retirement in 2016. Robert was a proud member of the OPP serving as a writer, editor, and media relations instructor for the OPP Academy. In 2004, Robert received the Ontario Provincial Police Accolade Award for Civilian of the Year.
Robert loved music and played trumpet since age 11, regularly performing in church orchestras and for community events. He cherished his family, enjoyed taking day trips with Linda, and appreciated nature, animals, and the outdoors.
He was a devout Christian and his faith in God was of paramount importance throughout his lifetime.
Robert will be remembered for his kind and pleasant demeanor, habit of excellence and professionalism, and willingness to volunteer and help those in need.
A private family celebration of life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer Society of Simcoe County.
