Jan 03 1953 – August 2 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we share the peaceful passing of Mark Sturrup, affectionately known as “Sturrup Boy,” on August 2, 2025, at the age of 72. Mark fought a difficult battle of cancer with incredible strength, quiet grace, and a deeply rooted faith that never faltered. He was surrounded by the unwavering love of his devoted wife and children, who remained by his side until the very end. His courage and resilience were a true inspiration to all who knew and loved him.
Mark was a loving husband to his cherished wife, Sabrina, and a proud, caring father to his beloved children: Shanya, Vonque (Sarah), Jessica (Steve), Melissa (Landon), Darryl, Maria (Ron), and Sandi (Joe). His deep love for his family was the heartbeat of his life, and he will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by each of them. Mark's legacy lives on through his treasured grandchildren: Miles, Otis, Felicity, Keshia, Aaliyah (Josh), Jenna (Petar), Josh, Justin (Meaghan), Andrew (Julia), and Ashley (Tim), as well as his precious great-grandchildren: Sophia, Kaylee, Cali, and Lily—each one carrying a piece of his heart forward.
Mark was the beloved son of the late Coralee and Percy Sturrup. He is lovingly remembered by his devoted sisters and caring brothers: Karran Sturrup, Judy Rolle (Solomon), Vilerine Henfield, Evangelist Dr. Joan Knowles, Veronica Minnis, Nitchel Sturrup and Edison Sturrup. He is now reunited in peace with his brother, the late Fenerick Sturrup (former seaman in the Bahamas Defence Foce). Mark’s memory will also live on through his many cherished nieces and nephews, and the countless relatives and dear friends whose lives he touched with warmth, humor, and unwavering kindness.
Born on January 3rd, 1953, in Nassau, Bahamas, to his loving parents Percy and Coralee Sturrup, Mark’s early years were filled with the warmth, rhythm, and strong family values of island life. That foundation shaped his vibrant spirit, which he carried with him when he later moved to Ontario, Canada. There, he built a life full of love, hard work, and lasting friendships—never letting go of the Bahamian joy and light he shared so freely with everyone he met.
Known to many as “Sturrup Boy,” Mark’s passion for music was one of his greatest gifts. In the Bahamas, he was a well-known musical force, admired for his talent, rhythm, and ability to blend genres. His signature style—rake ‘n’ scrape and funk fusion—left a lasting impression on audiences. Music wasn't just a talent for Mark—it was his calling. He poured that love into his family, filling their home with melody, drumming sessions, and heartfelt songs that brought everyone closer together. A truly gifted songwriter, Mark created every part of his music—lyrics, rhythms, melodies, and beats—all from the soul.
Later in life, Mark continued to share his musical gift with the community by founding a drum school, where he patiently taught children to find their own rhythm and voice. With his warm heart and infectious energy, he inspired a new generation, leaving a legacy that will echo on for years to come.
Alongside his musical talent, Mark was also a highly skilled and respected drywaller. Known for his precision and strong work ethic, he built more than just walls—he built opportunities. He proudly passed down his craft to his children and mentored many others, helping them launch careers and find pride in their work. Through every lesson and project, he left a lasting mark—not just in homes, but in the lives of those he helped shape.
