Remembering Karen Muriel Wetherald

Karen Muriel Wetherald     

July 15, 1975 – June 17, 2025

After a brief illness at Orillia Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Karen passed peacefully with family at her bedside. leaving behind a legacy of kindness, compassion, and love.

Predeceased by her son, Jack.  Survived by son, Benjamin Cornelisse, mother & father Sandra & David Wetherald, and brother Albert Wetherald & wife, Sarah Sirkett.

Loving niece of aunts Wanda Pentone, Lynda Phillips, and “Aunt & Uncle” Joann & Tom Carrothers, cousins Jonathan Armstrong Russell Penstone, Valerie O’Brien, Pauline Mpamugo, Steven Mpamugo,   and nieces & nephews Lyric, Nova, Nolan, Aidan, Callum, William, Bridget,  Alex & Katy.

A devoted mother, Karen’s greatest joy in life was her son Benjamin, whom she loved fiercely and unconditionally.

Karen had a deep love for animals and spent her life surrounded by them, always extending her care and gentleness to creatures great and small.

An avid reader, Karen found comfort and inspiration in books, often sharing her favorite stories and insights with those around her.

Her warmth and kindness touched everyone she met—traits that defined her and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Lifelong friends Melanie Martin, Joe Cornelisse, and the beloved “Collingwood gang” -Tom & Tara Cornelisse and sons Stewart, Luke, & Ethan remember her with great affection. She was also predeceased by her cherished friend, Sheila Goss.

Thanks to the ICU staff at OSMH for their compassionate care, and to the folks upstairs: Dr Guller, Jim & Trevor for their long term support.

Cremation has occurred and a family celebration of Karen’s life will be held at a later time.

Memorial donations could be made to Orillia SPCA.

    I lived in the apartment below Karen and Ben for 2 years. She was such a lovely lady and neighbour. One winter, she ventured out in a blizzard to get my son’s antibiotic prescription for me, as I was stuck in the driveway. I’m so sorry for your loss Ben and family. We will always remember her kindness.
