MURRAY, ELLEN ELIZABETH
Peacefully surrounded by her family at the Mariposa House Hospice on Saturday, May 3, 2025 at the age of 87. Ellen Murray of Barrie, beloved wife of the late Peter Murray. Loving mother of David Murray (predeceased), Douglas Cillis (Sandy), Michael Cillis (predeceased), Elizabeth Bennett (Michael), Sean Murray (Tracy) and Andrea Asselin (Paul). Loved grandmother of Samantha, Stephen, Michelle, Ryan, Hollie, Matthew, Ayana, Bayze, Sara and Andrew. Cherished great grandmother of Aiden, Olivia, Everly, Madison, Wesley, Sylas, Bella, Winifred, Rocco, Noah, Mya, Violet, Edie-Georges, Bruin and Maeve. Predeceased by her sister June Munro.
Ellie’s talent and love of music, singing and dancing was a gift she passed down through generations in the family. She had an innate ability to bring people together, welcoming all into her home with warmth and generosity, always setting a place for them at the table, especially for family Sunday dinners.
Her later years were spent with many dear friends that filled her life with laughter, music, and a shared intellectual curiosity. She found joy in book clubs, performing in a ukulele group and singing in community choirs. She had a deep love for being near the water, treasuring her family visits to Nova Scotia. She cherished her many years of companionship with her dog Katie. Ellie’s sense of humour and sweet soul will be forever missed.
Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held at Carson Funeral Homes 54 Coldwater St. E., Orillia (705) 326-3595 on Sunday July 13, 2025 from 1-4 P.M. Sharing of Memories will begin at 2:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any memorial donations be made to Mariposa House Hospice.

May 15, 2025On behalf of The Hawkestone Singers, we send you our loving thoughts. Ellie was pure joy. She was a treasured member of our little choir. She brought such peace and joy to our sessions. We knew she struggled with health issues. She'd be gone for a while but as soon as she could she would be back in her place with a joyful smile. We thank her for choosing us! May she find music in her next home and to her family and friends, we are sending our deepest condolences.

May 8, 2025Ellen always welcomed me. With my mother on New Year’s Eve at her and Peter’s wonderful parties and many other occasions just for fun. Then when my mother left I was one of the family at Christmas. Ellen was a soft spoken gentle soul with a heart of gold.
