James (Jim) Thomson Cook
June 18, 1942 – April 18, 2025
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Jim (James) Thomson Cook on April 18, 2025, in his 83rd year.
Jim was predeceased by his beloved wife, Lynda (née McCaughey), and by his parents, Jonathan and Jean Cook. He leaves behind his son James, daughter-in-law Sumiyo Ogasawara, and grandchildren Hana and Yuuya. He is also fondly remembered by his sister, Dottie-Jean Young.
Jim was deeply connected to the outdoors, and throughout his life he found great joy in hunting and fishing. He told wonderful stories of his longtime hunting buddies and of his many adventurous trips to the Arctic. He cared for Lynda with extraordinary devotion throughout her long illness with MS and was devastated to lose her while they were both so young. His golden lab, Sandy, was his steadfast companion — Jim missed her dearly in his final year. His life was one of quiet strength and fierce independence, and his family is profoundly grateful for the example he set.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to Dr. Peter Daniel for his superb and compassionate care over many years, to Dr. Emily Bryson, and to the outstanding staff at both Royal Victoria and Soldiers' Memorial hospitals for their kind dedication and support.
A simple visitation will be held at Carson Funeral Home in Orillia on Sunday, April 27th, from 2 to 4 p.m.
As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations in Jim’s name may be made to the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters (www.ofah.org), in support of the natural world he so loved.
Arrangements entrusted to Carson Funeral Homes L. Doolittle Chapel, 54 Coldwater St. E., Orillia (705) 326-3595.
Condolences
