Remembering Evelyn Jean Reid (nee Spurrell) 'Jean'

August 29, 1938 - January 25, 2025

In Loving Memory of Evelyn 'Jean' Reid (nee Spurrell)

Jean passed away peacefully at the age of 86, surrounded by her loving family, and was reunited with her parents, Charles and Sarah Ann Spurrell, of Newfoundland. She is now with her big brothers, Allison (Maude) and Samuel, where they will humorously torment each other and share stories once again with their older sister, Marilyn (Claude).

Jean was the loving and devoted wife of Ellis 'Al' Reid for 65 years. She was a loving mother to Shirley (Mike), Randy (Carrie), Todd (Jodi), Karen, Diane, and Charles.

Proud grandmother, affectionately known as Nanny, to Steven, Jennifer, Jaclyn, Ryan, Kyle, Randy Jr., Katie, Brittany, Conner, Emily, Olivia, Krystal, Alexander, Andrew, Taylor, Katrina, and Ryan, and adored great-grandmother to Ethan, Emerson, Braden, Megan, Sophie, Jordan, Justin, Preston, AnnaLynn, Everett, Riley, Madison, Hudson, Harley, Brooklyn, Bentley, Jaxson, and Jaida. She was also a cherished great-great-grandmother to Nixon and Nova.

Jean had a playful spirit and a quick wit that stayed with her throughout her life. She graduated as an RNA in St. John's, Newfoundland, and later moved to Toronto, where she met her husband, Al. Though she left her nursing career to raise her family, her compassion and caring nature never ceased. She continued to care for those around her with kindness and selflessness, always putting others first. Jean had a deep love for animals, believing that a loving dog was essential to make a house feel like a home. She leaves behind her beloved little Teddy, with whom she would sing and dance in her arms.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks for donations to be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada or to your local animal shelter.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Carson Funeral Homes L.
