George passed away peacefully, at his residence in Lakeview Manor in Beaverton, on July 28, 2024. He was 95 years young. George had been comforted by many of his family who had come to see him that day and the days preceding his passing. George was predeceased by his wife Marna (September 23, 2023) and his siblings Bill Hobson, Mary Alsop and Margaret McConnell.
George and Marna had a wonderful relationship for 70 years. They will be greatly missed by their children and their spouses, Grant and Jane Hobson, Gary and Lee Hobson, Greg and Barb Hobson and Shelly and Mark Hitchcox. George was Grampa to nine grandchildren (Jennifer, Sarah, David, Erin, Jamie, Anne, Dexter, Thomas and Scott) and was great grampa to seven great grandchildren (Dylan, William, Eliot, Owen, Lucy, Hugh and Theodore). He was also a beloved uncle and friend to many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
George had a Bachelor of Agriculture from McGill College and an MBA from Western University. His career path followed many roles such as a salesman, purchasing agent and a tax consultant. He had various responsibilities with Windsor Salt Company, Noranda Mines, Stone and Webster, Finance Manager with the Ontario provincial government and finally as a tax consultant in the mining industry which he carried on until he was 80 years old. He was also a talented musician starting on the piano at an early age. This led him to forming a full-sized band during his college years as well as performing for various functions and establishments during his life, right up to the occasional tinkling of the ivory in his last few years. Keyboards was his passion, but he also enjoyed being active as a Rotarian, the Commodore at Lagoon City and many other outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, boating and spending time at his favourite place, the cottage.
George’s family would like to express their gratitude for the compassionate care provided by the staff and volunteers at the Lakeview Manor in Beaverton. They went above and beyond to make sure Dad was comfortable and felt at home.
A private family service is to follow at a later date.

Sep 2, 2024Sending my condolences to you all Lost my mom Barbara Kathryn (Rankin) Hobson July 27 2024 coincide in the same last name and a family member with same name as my mom. Found your fathers obituary when fellow boaters from Mariposa marina were searching for a man who had his tomatoes for sale on the honour on Mariposa road into the marina. He didn’t have tomatoes out in a while then not seen. Then a for sale sign went up that we could see as we drove by. The to find out where he went. Raymond Grenier passed away sadly in July. These two men were great men hope they get to meet My second coincidence with George hobson is that I also worked for a stone snd Webster in Toronto in late 1990. Life is full of similarities. Your family has a few of them that match my families names. My uncle george had a son named George Hobson junior. His sister name was Marne. Wish we all had met when all were able. Thinking of you all
