Remembering Betty Irene Hawke (nee Balkwill)

Passed away peacefully at Trillium Manor, Orillia, surrounded by family on Friday May 24, 2024 in her 96th year. Betty (nee Balkwill) Hawke is predeceased by her loving husband Charles Hawke (1983), parents Art and Laura (Laughlin) Balkwill, siblings Elmer (Bessie), Margaret Galbraith (Alvin) and Morley (Jeanette). Survived by her sister Lynda Johnston (Bob predeceased). Fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, family and friends. Betty was a member of Carely Women’s Institute. She worked at Moonstone Municipal Phone Company and enjoyed her time with the wonderful people. She was also a member of Eady United Church. Betty loved gardening and looking after many animals and loved collecting anything related to Elephants. She enjoyed many bus touring trips to the USA and Western Canada. Betty was always busy looking after others and helping family and friends. Betty and Charlie married in 1950. She was a very good cook. The family would like to thank Trillium Manor nurses and caregivers for the wonderful care and love they shared with Betty while there. We always knew Betty was getting excellent care. A private family interment will be held at St. Andrew’s St. James’ Cemetery, Orillia. If desired memorial donations to Comfy Cat Shelter, Orillia and Aspen Valley Sanctuary, Rosseau or the charity of your choice would be appreciated.     I can remember Ms Betty Hawke coming to our house when my Mom ( Audrey Johnstone) was a member of the Carley Women’s Institute all the community ladies made a quilt and it was setup at our house, and Betty was always so nice and kind to me when we met . Rest Peacefully, Betty Dale Johnstone
