Remembering Markos Themelis

Passed peacefully at Orillia Soldiers Memorial Hospital on the morning of Saturday September 23rd, 2023, in his 96th year.  Markos was a loving & devoted husband to his wife Joanna and the son of the late Dimitri & Maria. He will be greatly missed by his children Maria (John), Freeda, and Kathy and his two granddaughters Victoria and Nicole. Markos is predeceased by his siblings Michali, Zabeta, Nicoleta & Ekaterina.  Markos & Joanna would have celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary this coming December 31st. They moved to Canada from Greece in 1967 (the year the Toronto Maple Leafs won their last Stanley Cup) and spent 55 years in Gravenhurst where they worked hard and raised their family. Markos loved spending time outside, whether it was tending to his vegetable and flower gardens or playing with his granddaughters. He loved raking piles of leaves in the fall so they could jump in while being chased around by their dog Lily.  He would look forward to every family gathering so he could hear everyone’s stories of academic achievements, work accomplishments or travel adventures.  The family would like to thank everyone working at the Lake Simcoe Retirement Residence & Assisted Living in Orillia who looked after Markos for the last two years.  The family will receive visitors at the Carson Funeral Home – L.Doolittle Chapel 54 Coldwater Street E., Orillia, Ontario 705-326-3595 on Wednesday October 4, 2023 from 9:00am until time of service in the chapel at 10 o’clock. Interment to follow at Lakeview / St. Pauls Cemetery 230 Wagner St. Gravenhurst.
