Remembering May Ying Tam Lem

We are deeply saddened to announce that our mom’s chair by the window is now empty. Our mom, May Ying Tam Lem passed away peacefully on March 6 in her 86th year at Soldiers Memorial Hospital in Orillia surrounded by her children. Mom was born in Haiping, China to Chau Lan Cheung Tam and Fat Ying Tam. She emigrated to Canada in 1957 and was married shortly after. She was the beloved wife of the late Moon Way Lem with whom she worked side by side at the Golden Dragon Restaurant in Orillia for more than four decades until it closed in 1999. Her children Donald, Jean (Geoff), Wanda (Jeff), Sharon, Keith (Charles), Nancy (Shawn) and Edward will miss her exuberance, her sense of humour, her generosity, her concern for others and of course her cooking. Mom was survived by her sister Mee Kam Lee and predeceased by her brother Chun Pak Tam and sister May Yuk Mui Cheung. She was PoPo to her beautiful grandchildren, Daren, Kevin, Jacob, Siena and India. She will also be missed by our many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who also called her Mom. The family would like to thank the many volunteers and all the staff, especially the PSWs, nurses and doctors at Soldiers Memorial Hospital for the care she received over the last couple of months. A visitation will be held on Sunday March 19 from 3-7 pm. A Celebration of Life will be held on March 20th. Visitation will begin at noon and a service will start at 1 pm at Carson Funeral Home, 54 Coldwater St. E., Orillia 705-326-3595. An Interment will follow at St. Andrew’s Cemetery, 320 Coldwater Rd W. in Orillia. Donations may be made in lieu of flowers to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or Orillia Soldiers Memorial Hospital.
