Remembering Linda Holly

On Monday, August 15, 2022, Linda Dianne Holly, passed away after a courageous battle with ALS, in Midland, Ontario.  Linda is survived by her loving partner, Fred Schmitt of 38 years.  She was predeceased by her father, William Pidlubny and her mother, Nellie Pidlubny.  Linda also leaves behind her son, Richard Holigrocki and her two granddaughters, Taya and Zoe.

Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Linda was well known as an educator.   She started her teaching career in a one room school house at the age of 19, in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba.  She continued teaching in several small towns, including Savant Lake, Ontario, a small northern community 400 km north of Thunder Bay.  She was always keen to share incredible stores of her teaching adventures - from living in a converted passenger train car to chasing away hungry bears that came knocking on her door for food.

Linda’s love of reading inspired her to become a reading specialist.  She continued her teaching career in Brampton and Mississauga.   She and Fred eventually moved to the Township of Tiny, Ontario, where she was a kindergarten supply teacher years after her retirement.

Linda loved to travel the world with her partner Fred or one of her many friends. Always looking for adventure, those who travelled with Linda knew they wouldn’t be disappointed.    She was notorious for instigating shenanigans as she loved lighthearted fun and looked forward to any opportunity to retell the story.

An accomplished scrapbook artist, she took great pride in the many books she published.  Her community friends loved the scrapbooking workshops she gave in her home and there was always a waiting list to attend.  In later years she enjoyed being outdoors in her backyard gazebo, reading books and tending to her backyard forest.

She will be greatly missed by her family, friends and all who knew her. The family would like to thank the amazing staff at Huronia Hospice, who showed Linda much love and support during her final weeks.

Funeral service will be held at Carson Funeral Homes – JH Lynn Chapel, 290 First Street, Midland (705) 526-6551 on Wednesday August 17, 2022 at 1pm. Reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Linda’s name to Hospice Huronia, Tompkins House, 948 Fuller Avenue, Penetanguishene, Ontario, L9M 1G7
