Gertrude passed away on June 7, 2022, at the Georgian Bay General Hospital, at the age of 103.
Gertrude was born May 25, 1919, to Francis Zoschke and Annie Cuff in Penetanguishene and married Michael Neilon (predeceased) on June 1, 1942. They have five children, Barbara (Dave Black) of Barrie, Mary Lynn (Peter Evans) of Barrie, Michael (Elanor) of Port McNicoll, Blayne (Linda) of Penetanguishene, and Keith (Sue) of Midland.
A continuous learner, she was a self-taught painter and created many paintings which covered the walls of her home and those of her children for many years. In her eighties, she started to teach herself German which she practiced daily. She loved family gatherings and dinners. In her early years, she prepared all holiday dinners for all her children and grandchildren regardless of the number. Gertrude kept active well after 100 and it was not unusual for her to be seen out for a walk.
Gertrude is survived by her grandchildren, Heather (Darrin), Raymond (Lesley), Sharon (Joel), Michael, Shelley (Shawn), Richard (Kim), Blake (Lacie) Brock (Ocian), Sarah, Justin (Atsuko), and Jonathan (Rekha). Predeceased by David and Caroline. Great Grandchildren, Victoria, Taylor (Jake) Samantha, Alexandria, Olivia, Avery, Leighton, Parker, Michael, Brianna, Brodie, Annabelle, Makoto, Hana, Willow, River, Barrett, and two great-grandchildren coming soon, as well as three great-great-grandchildren, Dallas, Kieran, and Connor.
Friends will be received at Carson Funeral Homes – JH Lynn Chapel, 290 First Street, Midland (705) 526-6551 on Monday June 13, 2022 from 6pm – 9pm. A funeral service will be held in our chapel on Tuesday June 14, 2022 at 10am, reception to follow. Burial to take place at St. Ann’s Catholic Cemetery at 2pm. Memorial donations to the charity of choice would be appreciated by the family if desired.
