Remembering Herbert Leslie Mais

Herbert Leslie Mais passed away peacefully on Thursday June 2 in his 90th year. He was born in St. Ann’s Bay, Jamaica and moved to Toronto in 1952. He will be fondly missed by his daughter Sue and son in law Tony Polera and their children Matthew (Julia), Daniel (Natalie), Emma (James) and granddaughter Brinlee. He was predeceased by his first wife Valerie (1976) and his second wife Jean (2010). He will be sadly missed by longtime friend, Liz Hunter. He also leaves behind his son Greg (Rose predeceased) and their children Valerie and Emily. Herb was a true gentleman throughout his life starting as a young lad in Jamaica – his birthplace, moving to Toronto when he was 22 years old. He was fortunate to work for CBC – mainly the Radio division – for over 35 years. He fell in love with broadcasting and continued to be a strong supporter of public radio. Herb and his wife Jean, retired to Orillia and at that time he volunteered with many organizations including Golden K, Orillia Library, Probus and Soldiers Memorial Hospital. He was fortunate to travel across Canada and to numerous places in Europe and South America. A celebration of life will be held on Friday June 10, 1:30p.m. at the Doolittle Chapel of Carson Funeral Homes, 54 Coldwater St. E., Orillia, Ontario L3V 1W5 (705) 326-3595.
