Remembering Kathryn Dupuis

It is with broken hearts and great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Kathryn Lottie Dupuis (nee Ladouceur). Kathy passed away peacefully at her much-loved Cawaja Beach home on April 29th, 2022 at the age of 71.

She was a devoted, loving and generous mother to her daughter “the greatest love of her life” Tara Westcott (Doug). Beloved sister and best friend of Susan Benoit. Kathy will be lovingly remembered by her nephews and nieces Keith Benoit (Elissa), Adam Benoit (Melissa), Kaila Card (Ryan), Stephanie Blair (Jason) and Megan Barkley (Zak). Kathy was the adoring “Auntie” of Lucky and Sidney Benoit and Liberty and Nova Card.  Predeceased by her parents Laurence and Barbara Ladouceur. Survived by brothers Craig and Grant Ladouceur. She will be dearly missed by all her family and friends.

Kathy was born in Penetang. She and her sister shared many fond memories growing up there. When the family moved to Midland, she spent all her spare time at her second home, the YMCA. She was an excellent gymnast and a gifted athlete.

Early in her career she worked as a Nurse in Midland where her genuine, compassionate nature shone through. She later went on to become a Recreational Therapist. This is where she found her true calling. She was a huge proponent for the elderly and she dreamed of providing her patients with an outing created in their honour. In the early 1990’s she saw her vision come to life with the annual “Rodeo Picnic”. Throughout her profession she was able to bring so much joy to so many people.

Kathy always felt her greatest accomplishment in life was being a mother. She would often tell Tara “You are the best thing that ever happened to me”. Her love and devotion as a mother are unsurpassed.

Kathy had many passions in life. Among the most treasured were her relationships with family and friends. When you visited you never left empty handed and she would always be waiting in the window with one last wave goodbye. She loved to travel and meet new people along the way who would invariably become close friends. Her creativity was showcased in her many stained glass works of art. At Christmas her home embodied the “magic” of the season. It was her favorite time of the year.

Kathy had a huge heart and was a kind, giving, selfless woman who always put others first. She was a gentle soul, yet make no mistake she could be formidable in the face of injustice. She was a champion of the “underdog”.  Her hardships in life only served to make her stronger.

Above all else Kathy lived a life of gratitude and joy. Often you would hear her say “I can’t believe how lucky I am. I just feel so fortunate”. She was a very positive person always finding the good in every situation.

Those wishing to honor Kathy may do so by giving thanks for all life’s blessings.
