Remembering James Barnett

Born December 14, 1924 in London England. Son to Mary and Thomas and youngest brother to Tom, Dick, Rebecca and Kathleen. Raised in London, Jim enjoyed playing marbles with his siblings. Jim met his future wife Marjorie Teece at the age of 15, just after Jim had joined the Royal British Navy to serve in WW2. Aboard the aircraft carrier HMS Implacable, he circled the globe until the end of the war. During this time Jim and Marjorie were married and went on to have 3 children, Wendy, Alan and Kay and all immigrated to Orillia Ontario in 1957. His lifelong love Marjorie passed away in 1995 from heart complications, however Jim would find love again and was remarried to Helen Watson in 2004 and remained together until Helens passing in 2016. Jim enjoyed motorcycles, boats and all things mechanical. Later in life he was involved in woodworking, often building furniture for his family members. Throughout Jim’s life in Orillia, he was very much involved with the Mariposa Arts Theater, staring in many stage productions, renowned for his wonderful singing voice. Jim could always be found greeting customers and friends with a smile at his business, Barnett’s Surplus Store which operated for over 40 years in the downtown area. Jim will be missed by his many Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren and Great Great Grandchildren who lovingly referred to him as Dadum. Jim was truly a unique and special individual. A Celebration of life will be held on Wednesday November 3, 2021 at 1 o’clock at St. Paul’s United Church. A reception will follow at the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 34.
