Remembering David Everett Edwards

March 31, 1946- July 20, 2021

It is with profound sadness we share the passing of David Everett Edwards. Following a courageous battle against cancer, David passed away peacefully surrounded by his beloved family, at Mariposa House Hospice. In his remaining days, he demonstrated his characteristic love of life and strong will to live. David loved his family so very much and leaves behind his beloved wife Debra of 47 years, children: Sean (Sherri), Andrew (Jennifer), Michael (Rebecca), Sarah (Trevor), Rachel, and 5 grandchildren, Sebastian, Lucas, Jake, Edison and Vivian. Brother Jim (Susan) and sister Marilyn Smitherman and is the son of the pre-deceased Roy and Mary Edwards. David loved life on Lake Simcoe for over 45 years, boating, seadooing, and cherished spending winters in Green Valley, Arizona. David served proudly, and with dignity, the County of Simcoe and the Province of Ontario (Ministry of the Attorney General) since 1982 as the County Court Registrar, and in 1986 as the 11th and final County Sheriff . David was a true gentleman. He was well read, with a wealth of historical knowledge, and worldly wisdom from his many travels with Debra. David was historically involved as a political activist who served (former) Township of Orillia as a Councillor, member of the Planning Committee and School Board Trustee. David was well respected and greatly admired by those who knew him and worked with him. He enjoyed biking, skiing, swimming at the pool in Green Valley, and many social times with friends and family. David will be so very sadly missed by his family and all who knew him as a fine gentleman, friend and neighbour. Very special thanks to all the staff and volunteers at Mariposa House Hospice, (Katlyn, Jennifer, Theresa, Emily, Renee and Kandas). A celebration of life will follow at a later time. Donations made to Mariposa House Hospice would be appreciated and will be accepted by the Doolittle Chapel of Carson Funeral Homes, 54 Coldwater St. E., Orillia (705) 326-3595.
