Remembering Derek Craig Robert Loughrin

With heavy hearts and profound sadness, the family announces the sudden and very unexpected passing of Derek Craig Robert Loughrin on April 13, 2021, at the age of 45.

We are truly grateful for the ability to spend some time with him and say our goodbyes.  The miracle came in that his heart started beating again, even if it wasn’t for very long.

Beloved son of the late Deborah Loughrin and Craig Cronkrite.  Big brother of David, Jessica (Adam) & Crystal (Kevin).  Uncle to Marissa, Desmond, Madison, Dawson & Mackenzie.  Special Nephew to Shirley Payne and Kevin Loughrin.  Loving partner of Stephanie Young.

Derek will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his extended family, cousins and many friends.

Derek gave the absolute best bear hugs.  He had a great big smile and an incredible laugh.  He loved to figure out how things worked and was known as the ‘wonder boy’.  He loved animals, especially his Jack Russell, Koko (who passed a few years ago) and most recently, his two rescue kittens.

I loved to see you and was always sad to see you go - Jessica.

You always made me feel so important - David.

I loved walking with you and your dog, Koko - Crystal.

You were always there when we needed you.  The world is a lonelier place without you, brother - to say the least.  It is hard to believe we will never see you again in this life.

You are loved beyond words and will be missed beyond measure.

The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the Staff at Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital in Orillia, including Nurses Tamara, Jana, Jen & Felicia (ICU).  Dr. Bailey and Linda (Chief Medical Secretary).  We will be forever grateful for your compassion and kindness during this most difficult of times.

Donations can be made to the Lighthouse Men`s Shelter in Orillia and the Ontario SPCA – Orillia Animal Centre at 467 West St N in memory of Derek Loughrin.

There is no service at this time.  A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

We would love to hear your favourite stories of Derek.  Please share either on Carson Funeral Homes site or on Facebook.

Derek wanted his viable organs donated and someone received his liver.

Thank you to all who loved him.
