Remembering Patrick Gerald Slattery

It is with great sadness that the family of Patrick Slattery announces his passing on April 14, 2021, aged 88 years, after a courageous journey with vascular dementia. He died peacefully at home in Cumberland Beach with family by his side. Patrick was the beloved husband and best friend of Wendy Slattery for almost 60 years. He will be lovingly remembered by his children Anita (Mike) and Jennifer (Rick). He will be sorely missed by his four grandchildren Jeffrey Gregory (Amber), Joe McDonald (Marisa), Sean McDonald (Kim) and Gerry McDonald (Sarah), as well as his four great grandchildren Braydon and Nevaeh Gregory and Liam and Cayden Allen. Patrick was born and raised in Ireland near Clonmel, Tipperary, with his three brothers. He went to Dublin to study aeronautical engineering and from there to England to join the P & O Shipping Company. It was there he met Wendy. They were married in 1961 and had two daughters before they moved to Orillia in 1964. Patrick worked at Precision Rubber in Orillia, then became plant manager for Standard Products in Georgetown before joining the government as a health and safety inspector, in which position he was well respected by both management and employees. He was a very talented engineer. He loved his work and used his talents to build or improve the homes they lived in. When he retired he owned Bass Lake Lumber for a number of years. He was also warden and property manager at St. James’ Anglican Church, working to maintain or improve the church building. He was a devoted father and loved having his family around. He was always very proud of their accomplishments. He also loved to travel and to spend time on his boat in Georgian Bay with family and friends. The family would like to thank all those who lovingly cared for him as his dementia progressed. It would not have been possible to keep him at home without their help. Church was always very important to Patrick and a private service of Thanksgiving will be held at St. James’ Anglican Church on Saturday April 24 at 11:00 a.m. Because of Covid it will be for immediate family and invited guests only. The service will be recorded and may be viewed on the St. James’ website. Google St. James’ Anglican Church Orillia and click on website. Then look for special services and Patrick Slattery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. James’ Anglican Church, The Alzheimer’s Society, or VON Adult Day Program Orillia and will be received by the Doolittle Chapel of Carson Funeral Homes, 54 Coldwater St. E., Orillia, (705) 326 3595. the Doolittle Chapel of Carson Funeral Home, 54 Coldwater St. E., Orillia (705) 326-3595.
