Remembering Edmund Reginald Ansdell 'Ed'

Passed away peacefully at home on March 23rd, 2021 in his 79th year. Son of John (Jack) and Ella Mae Ansdell (both predeceased). Loving life partner of Valerie (Tupling) for 56 years. Beloved father of three sons, Patrick of Gold Bridge, British Columbia, Timothy and his wife Teresa, of Barrie, Ontario and Matthew and his wife Diane, of Orillia, Ontario. Much loved grandfather of Lucas and Jordan Ansdell of Barrie. Dear brother of Leah Law (Terry, predeceased) of Orillia and brother-in-law of Geoffrey Tupling (Rochelle, predeceased) of Toronto. Loving uncle of Terry Lee (predeceased) (Ron), Dawn (Jim), Judi (Michael) and Shayna (Jamie). Ed was a born and bred Orillian who loved his town and the wonderful atmosphere it provided for raising his family and for making lifelong friends. After graduation from Ryerson in 1965, Ed assumed management of Ansdell Hardware Limited, a business founded in the 1940s by his father, Jack. In 1979, Ed embarked on a new business venture, Lock, Stock & Barrel, in which he was eventually joined by his youngest son, Matthew. During his business years, Ed served as president of the Orillia Rotary Club and Chairman of the Board of St. Paul’s United Church. Ed was a true gentleman, a kind and generous man who cherished his family and friends. He had an amazing ability to repair and build anything, enjoyed wood-working, and spent many hours indulging his passion for genealogy. Ed loved to travel to new and exciting destinations and always had his camera at the ready to record the best of life’s moments. Ed’s family would like to thank Dr. Peter Daniel, the RVH Cancer Centre team, the wonderful nurses who provided comfort, care and compassion, and his faithful friends whose enduring support and concern helped us through this past year. There will be a celebration of Ed’s life at a later time when family and friends can gather together safely. If desired, memorial donations to Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital, or Royal Victoria Hospital Cancer Centre would be appreciated by the family and will be accepted by the Doolittle Chapel of Carson Funeral Home, 54 Coldwater St. E., Orillia (705) 326-3595.
