It is with great sadness that the family od Don Wilcox announce his sudden passing in his 82nd year on November 16, 2020 as the result of an accident near his home in Tiny Township. Don, born and raised in Midland, the son of Crawford and Agnes Wilcox, is survived by his wife Shirley (nee Newton), daughter Margaret (Keith) Jones of Barrie, grandson Matthew, brother Jim (Hettie) of Ottawa.
Don attended high school in Midland Secondary School, completing his education in Hamilton where he played junior A hockey, having been drafted by the Detroit Red Wings during the era of six NHL teams.
In later years he worked in the harness horse racing industry competing as a trainer, driver and owner at race tracks throughout southern Ontario and the US. Don enjoyed holidaying in UK and France, going to the races and walking the old battlefields. Don will be sadly missed by his family in-laws and by many friends. At Don’s request that there be no funeral service, cremation has taken place and a private family graveside service was held at Lakeview cemetery. Memorial donations to Georgian Bay General Hospital or the Salvation Army would be appreciated by the family if desired.
The family of Don Wilcox would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude for the overwhelming expressions of sympathy during their recent loss. The many kind and loving messages offering assistance, sympathy cards, phone calls, emails, messages through others and donation of food have been deeply appreciated.
