Remembering Lola Mary McMillan (nee Calhoun)

Passed peacefully at Soldiers Memorial Hospital in Orillia on Monday May 18, 2020 in her 79th year.  Lola will be sadly missed by her daughters Cheryl (Gord) Conroy and Susan McMillan (Byron Crosby), and by her granddaughter Jessica Conroy (Steven Pereira).  Lola is survived by her brother Stan (Lorna) Calhoun and by many nieces and nephews and friends.

Lola was the daughter of Marshall and Alice Calhoun and sister to Irene, Sheldon, Shirley, and Marvin (pre-deceased).

Lola was a strong, independent woman.  She had a huge sensitive heart, always a devoted caretaker to family and friends, anyone in need.  She was always so much fun to be around with her quick wit, beautiful smile, generous laugh, and hilarious antics.

Lola had so many interests and hobbies including woodworking, home maintenance and repair, building and construction.  She loved animals, movies, theatre, travel, and gardening.   She took woodworking classes and even a car maintenance course.  She engaged in many sports in her younger years and was a die-hard Toronto Argos and Maple Leafs fan.  She especially loved cheering on her granddaughter at all her hockey games.

She loved all types of music and shared that love with her daughters, accompanying them to concerts including Queen, Alice Cooper, Bette Midler in Las Vegas and a trip to Nashville to name a few.

Lola worked hard for insolvency firms for decades and retired to Wasaga Beach where she enjoyed the “best time of my life”.  She made many new wonderful friends and had a good time with Probus, Red Hat Ladies, Bid Euchre and her Mini-Putt League.

Even though Lola battled kidney disease for many years and other health challenges she was always upbeat.  Lola, our “Rock”, loved life and will be so greatly missed by everyone who knew her.

A celebration of Lola’s life will take place when the public health situation clears.  Cremation has taken place. If desired, memorial donations may be made to the Orillia Branch of the OSPCA or the Orillia Soldiers Memorial Hospital Foundation – Hemodialysis unit and will be accepted by the Doolittle Chapel of Carson Funeral Homes, 54 Coldwater St. E., Orillia, (705) 326-3595.
