Engel, Irmgard (nee Kopp)
Passed away peacefully at Grove Park Nursing Home, Barrie, ON on June 23, 2019 in her 95th year.
Beloved wife of the late Ludwig Engel. Loving Mom of Ludi (Jan), Joanne Gagnon (Joe), Rick (Janet). Cherished Oma of Joseph (Kristen), LJ (Brittany), Jonathan (Kiersten), Kaitlin (Adam), Samuel, Heather and Derek. Dear Great Oma of Grace and Nathan.
Irmgard was born in Darmstadt, Germany. Predeceased by her parents Peter & Helena Kopp and by her sisters Elfriede Rasche and Klara Kopp.
Her early life was not easy, losing her mother at the age of 2 and being raised by her Oma and then living through war torn Germany in her teens. She married Ludwig in 1947 and immigrated to Canada in 1951 with their young son, Ludi, hoping to make a better life for themselves. Together they owned & operated Engel’s Bakery for 19 years, in Scarborough, ON. In 1974 they retired to the family cottage on the shores of Lafontaine Beach. They enjoyed their winters in their home in Florida and cruising the world. The family wishes to thank the dedicated and caring staff at Bayfield Retirement Home and especially her final months at Grove Park Nursing Home.
Cremation has taken place. Friends will be received at Carson Funeral Homes-LH Lynn Chapel, 290 First Street, Midland, (705) 526-6551 on Wednesday, July 10, 2019 from 10 o’clock till time of memorial service at 12 noon. Reception to follow.
Memorial donations to Grove Park Nursing Home or Charity of Choice would be appreciated by the family, if desired.
