Remembering Arthur Christopher Curtis

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Arthur Christopher Curtis on January 12, 2018 in his 87th year. He passed away peacefully with family at his side at Champlain Manor after a lengthy illness. Beloved husband of Mary (nee Henderson) and loving father of Leslie Curtis (Mark Lester) of London, England and Laura Curtis (Michael McNamara) of Bellingham, WA. USA. Proud grandfather of Abigail and Megan Lester. He was the son of the late Rev. Ira and Gertrude Curtis in Newfoundland and he is survived by his siblings, Ruth Rozee and George Curtis. Arthur was one of the first graduates from Memorial University, NFL with a BSc degree in 1952. Arthur enjoyed his summers whilst at University by taking part in the UNTD Naval program and travelled to Nova Scotia for this. Later he worked at Tor Bay as a mechanic for the US Air-force working on plane engines and never lost his love of planes and ability to pick out what type of plane was flying overhead. Arthur did his medical training at Dalhousie University, and then went on to Queen’s University to train as a Radiologist. He became a Staff Radiologist and Associate Professor at the Kingston General Hospital. In 1981 Arthur and family moved to Orillia and he worked in the Radiology Department of O.S.M. Hospital and later Clinics in Orillia and Midland. He loved his family, his job and walking in the beautiful Orillia countryside. Other favorite activities included cross-country skiing and traveling. The family would like to thank the caring and dedicated Staff at the Champlain Manor for Arthur’s care from the past 31/2 years and in particular P.S.W’s Tanya, Jen and Maria The family will receive relatives and friends at the Doolittle Chapel of Carson Funeral Homes, 54 Coldwater St. E., Orillia, (705) 326-3595 on Friday morning January 19, 2018 from 10 A.M. until time of funeral service at 11 o’clock. Cremation to follow. If desired, memorial donations to the O.S.M. Hospital or The Lighthouse/Building Hope Fund would be appreciated by the family.
