Remembering Eric William Goodall

Born in Motherwell, Scotland December 18, 1946  “Count your blessings, name them one by one, Count your blessings, see what God has done!” As written to my wife during forty-nine years of marriage- My Blessings: (1) Your love.  Your hand in mine through our shared joys and tears.  (2) One of the greatest joys of my life was becoming a dad and a popa to Kim & Paul and grandsons Carter & Decker (Beard); Debbie & Walter and grandaughters Bri & Emily (Taylor); Jon & Helmi and their children Megan & Ethan (Goodall)  (3) My Family - My dad (Willie Goodall) with his joy of life and singing still at 96 and memories of my mom’s gentleness (Margaret -predeceased).  (4) My sister, Eileen (Kitchen) and her husband Bruce and their children.  Their helping hands.  (5) My cousins who made growing up an adventure and fun. (6) Your family: My Pal Bill (Georgia) Gail & Paul (Florida), their families and Aunts Floss & Betty (New York) and all the wonderful nieces, nephews and cousins.  (7) For our many special friendships through the years filled with laughs, encouragements and prayers.  (8) Becoming a Teacher.  Discovering the uniqueness of each child I taught.  They made teaching a great adventure.  (9) Cross-country skiing together through the woods and the only sound the snow crackling under our skis.  Bliss. (10) Taking long walks hand in hand with you and a grandchild when counting bugs and smelling flowers was mandatory.  (11) Sharing with you, our daughter and grandson my first return to Scotland since I was a child (2008).  Crossing the pond again with you in 2013 in celebration of our 45th anniversary.   We finally did it!  (12) Biking all our special places like Jekyll Island, Venice Beach, Fla. and at our winter home in Solivita.  (13) Remembering the blessing of each day as it is a gift from God and that in each one, no matter the difficulties, there is joy to be found and thanks to be given. “Count your many blessings, angels will attend, Help and comfort give you to your journey’s end.”  Eric’s journey ended in Soldier’s Memorial Hospital on the morning of Tuesday, February 21st when he lost his sixteen month battle with terminal cancer.  George Muller, a man of great faith, wrote in the 1800’s: “The first great and primary business to which I ought to attend every day is to have my soul happy in the Lord.”  Eric lived everyday with his ‘soul happy in the Lord’.  “Yet the LORD will command his lovingkindness in the daytime, and in the night his song shall be with me, and my prayer unto the God of my life.”  Psalm 42:8 There will be a Celebration of Eric’s life on Saturday, March 4th, at Hillside Bible Chapel.  Doors open at 12:00. Service to begin at 1:00 p.m.  Refreshments will be served after the service. Eric was a supporter of Samaritan’s Purse relief efforts so in lieu of flowers donations to this charity would be most appreciated:  https://samaritanspurse.ca/ With much appreciation for and thanks to Dr. Aaron Barnett, Orillia and Dr. Li (RVH) for their pro-active and compassionate care for my husband.
