Remembering Gertrude Mulcahy 'Gert'

Gert became a Chartered Accountant in 1947. She was the first woman elected a Fellow Chartered Accountant of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario. She retired as Research Director of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants. She was the first woman to receive the Presidential Certificate of Merit from the CICA. The YWCA honoured her as a “Woman of Distinction”. On her retirement from the CICA, she was a Research Director at Touche Ross. Gert was inducted into the Orillia Hall of Fame in 1993.
Gert passed peacefully at home in Orillia on Wednesday October 14, 2015 in her 98th year.  Gert will be sadly missed by her beloved sister Lucille “Sue” of Orillia and her many nieces and nephews in Canada and the United States. 
Gert is predeceased by her parents M. Teefy and Gertrude Mulcahy, by her brothers Rolland, Rev. Matthew CSB, and Charles, and by her sisters Clara, Jacqueline and Anne Hartman. 
The family will receive friends at the Doolittle Chapel of Carson Funeral Homes, 54 Coldwater St. E., Orillia, (705) 326-3595 on Sunday October 18th at 2 to 5 pm. Prayers to follow at 4:45 pm.  Mass of Christian Burial will take place at the Church of the Guardian Angels at 115 West Street North, Orillia on Monday October 19th at 10:30 am.  Burial to follow at St. Michael’s Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Orillia Museum of Art and History or the Guardian Angels Building Fund.
