Remembering Marie Wood-Byberg

Marie Wood

1937-2025

It is with heavy hearts that we bid farewell to a very special Lady.  Marie left us on October 30, 2025.  She had just celebrated her 88th birthday on October 25th.

She will be lovingly missed by her children and their spouses:  Ron (Wendy), Paul (Nancy), Ann-Marie (Steve), Laura (Dan), and by her sister Barbara Ann (Joe) and Bob (predeceased sister Patricia Ann).

Known as Nana or Grandma, she leaves behind loving memories cherished by her grandchildren: Maggie (Kyle), Colton (Deanna), Megan, Peter, Johnny, Alicia, and Shane. She was affectionately known as Marie by her cousins, Auntie by her nieces and nephews, and GAM by her grandnieces and grandnephews.

Over the years, Marie was a vibrant and devoted member of the Loring/Port Loring, Ontario community. She had a remarkable gift for remembering names, faces, and the stories that connected them. Her deep love for her home on Lake Memesagamesing was well known.  She cherished the lake’s natural beauty and the warm, welcoming community that surrounded it, where neighbours became dear friends, and friends felt like family.

‘Her life was a rich and diverse tapestry with much love and many highlights, and she was grateful for it and the people she shared it with.’

Celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Contributions may be made in her honour to The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 415 in Port Loring, Ontario, or a charity of your choosing.  To make a donation you have two main options:

  7. Charlie Kennedy

Whether visiting the house in Gravenhurst or visiting the cottage later in life, Marie always asked about my family and she always remembered their names and where they were living. She always made me feel welcomed and appreciated especially when I brought her peaches from Niagara. A life well lived and well loved!
