Remembering Sylvia Dianne Head

With broken hearts we say goodbye to our mom Sylvia who passed away in her 82nd year at Orillia Soldier’s Memorial Hospital on April 27, 2021. Sylvia was born in Toronto on May 16, 1939. Her family moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba then back to Hamilton, Ontario where she spent her childhood years. Sylvia made life-long friends at Cathedral Girls High School and developed her strong faith in the Roman Catholic Church. Sylvia is survived by her loving sons Dan (Peggy), Gary (Edye), Terry (Donna), grandchildren Travis (Maggie), Craig (Charlene) Rhiannon (Tyler), Darien, Dylan and Lucas, and her great grandchildren Mariana and Daylen. Sylvia raised three high spirited boys in Grimsby, Ontario while teaching for the Lincoln County Roman Catholic Separate School Board. She also catered weddings, special events and loved to sew. You could always find Sylvia fundraising at her son’s sports events and pioneering various school activities and field trips. During her life she spent many years vacationing at her parent’s friend’s cottage in MacLean Lake near Coldwater, Ontario. Eventually she made the cottage her home and fulfilled her dream to retire along the river. With her generous and fun-loving spirit she opened her home to all her family and friends to enjoy and make memories up at “Osocozy”. Sylvia was forever involved in various organizations and groups; Retired Women’s Teachers of Ontario (RWTO), Red Hatters, Matchedash Community Heritage Centre, volunteering and attending meetings with a few trips to the casino sprinkled in between. Sylvia travelled the globe always up for a new adventure inspiring and encouraging her family to seek new culture and lands. Though she made so many friends all over the world a very special thank-you goes out to her friends who made it possible for her to live her last years at “Osocozy”, helping her in so many ways. Thank-you Emily, Erika, Dennis, Margie and Pat. Sylvia was a force that shone so bright while here on Earth. Now she will shine brightly in the night sky forever in her faith. In light of the current pandemic restrictions arrangements have been entrusted to Simcoe Cremation Services. A memorial gathering will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Food Bank Canada or any charity of your choice.
