Remembering John Palmer Davey

(Aeronautical Engineer, RAF Veteran, Member of the R.C.L., Br. #34, Orillia) John passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 27th, 2017 at the age of 85, after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease. Born in Edgware, England, John was the son of William Palmer Davey and Florence Ling. Predeceased by sister, Dorothy Bagley, John leaves behind his loving and devoted wife, Cheryl Ann Behan, and daughters, Nicola and Fiona (both of England) and son Charles (of Italy), plus 8 grandchildren (of England and Italy), and numerous nieces and nephews in Canada. John enjoyed a very rewarding career in engineering (deHavilland), Economics (Ontario Government) and Administration and Consulting. An avid sportsman, John was passionate about rugby, sailing and skiing, and balanced these activities with his love for music, gardening, cooking and the study of wine – “single malt” was also enjoyed with friends. John embraced the community wholeheartedly through his numerous volunteer activities with Hospice Orillia, CCAC (Past Board Member), St. James’ Anglican Church, Heart & Stroke “Big Bike”, Farmers’ Market Management Committee (Past Chair), Orillia Concert Association (Past Board Member), Horticulture Society (Past President), Champlain Seniors’ Service Club (Honorary Lifetime Member). As John’s Parkinson’s Disease progressed, he faced the challenges with grace, humour and courage. He was always “a gentleman” to the end. The family wishes to thank Doctors’ Foell, Odlozinski and Bhatt for their compassionate care over the years, and more recently, Doctors’ Reid and Chawdhary. Also, our heartfelt thanks to all the caring staff at Birchmere Retirement Residence, and Tanya Lupson, PSW, at Paramed Home Health Care. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at the Doolittle Chapel of Carson Funeral Homes, 54 Coldwater St. E., Orillia on Thursday, June 29th, 2017 from 4-7 p.m. A celebration of John’s life will take place at St. James’ Anglican Church, 58 Peter St. N., Orillia on Tuesday, July 4th with visitation from 12 noon until time of service at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, John requests that you consider a donation to a charity of your choice.
