Remembering Mavis Ardern

Passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Sunday May 14, 2017 at the age of 90. Loving wife of the late Frederick William (Bill),  Mavis was born in Gatley, Cheshire, England in 1926.  She moved to Midland, Ontario with her family in 1966 when Bill took up a teaching position with the then Provincial Institute of Trades and Occupations.

Mavis was an active member of the Probus Club of Severn Sound, acting as its Secretary for a number of years. She was an avid bridge player at the Victoria Harbour bridge club. Still driving until 90, she was the designated driver to and from Victoria Harbour for several members of the bridge club.

Mavis had a passion for knitting and enjoyed spending time with her friends at the Tiffin House knitting group, making hats for preemies and blankets and dolls which were donated to various charities.

Mavis will be sadly missed by her children Christine, Bob (Julia Williamson), and David (Carolina Falcon). Mavis is survived by her sisters Pat Lowe and Jean Thomas, and her brother Keith Thomas as well as numerous nieces and nephews and their families in Europe. Special thanks to Dr. Giliski, the staff at Georgian Bay General Hospital Dialysis Unit and Tiffin House for all their love and support.  A Celebration of Mavis’ Life will be held at Carson Funeral Homes – JH Lynn Chapel, 290 First Street, Midland (705) 526-6551 on June 24th, 2017 from 1 o’clock until 4 o’clock.  Memorial donations to the Kidney Foundation would be appreciated by the family if desired.
