Remembering Howard Stanley Newland

Howard Stanley Newland was born in West Toronto on April 20, 1926 to proud parents Stanley and Marjorie Newland. Later came along brothers David (Mary) and adopted brother Harry Cornish (Sue), then dog Gerry. Howard attended Runnymede Collegiate and at the age of sixteen met his wife of 67 years, Grace Card, whom he adored always. Howard was diagnosed with Tuberculosis in 1949 after only 3 months of marriage. He was a patient in the Muskoka Sanatorium in Gravenhurst for “2 years, 4 months less 3 days”. Howard and Grace raised two children, Bruce (Pat) and Carol in Richmond Hill. In 1988 the couple retired to live in Severn Bridge after Howard’s career in sales at Gorrie’s Chevrolet and Green and Ross Tire. Howard was Grandpa to Rayanna, Brandon and Christopher and loved every minute of it. He was also Uncle Howard to four nieces and nephews. The couple relocated to Orillia in 2004 where Howard passed peacefully in his sleep on April 27, 2017. What a “people person” Howard was! Kind words, laughter, Big Band music and “the nicest man I ever knew” is the way Howard will be remembered. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Howard’s life will be held at the family home, 33 Frontier Ave., Orillia on Saturday May 27, 2017 from 1-4 P.M. If desired, memorial donations to the Sick Kids Hospital would be appreciated by the family. Arrangements entrusted to the Doolittle Chapel of Carson Funeral Homes, 54 Coldwater St. E., Orillia, (705) 326-3595.
