Remembering Joseph Robert Michener

October 14, 1943 – May 15, 2016

A man of style and substance, Bob Michener enjoyed classical music, fine wines, good suits, collecting art, finding and carving walking sticks, making apple juice, canoe tripping, people, parties, politics and a rip-roaring argument. He will be greatly missed and his memory cherished by his loving family, including wife Pat (McDermott), sons Carl (Julie), Greg (Carolina), daughter Julia, and grandchildren Willow, Jean-Jacques and Arthur. Fresh out of university, Bob found his natural calling as the co-founder, then sole owner of Campbell, Michener and Lee, an award-winning Toronto advertising/strategic marketing communications firm in business for over 35 years. He helped build the industry as a board member of many advertising organizations. In 1979, he took a run at politics as the federal PC candidate for York West, and subsequently helped numerous other hopefuls with their campaigns. He served his community on the board of Boy Scouts, as President of Lytton Park Ratepayers, and through the pro bono work of his agency for The Canadian Foundation for Physically Disabled Persons and many other community and environmental causes. Born in Vancouver to Jeanne (Heathcott) and Joseph Michener, Bob is older brother to Tony, Chris (deceased), Sally (Potts) and Ted Michener. Until Alzheimer’s claimed him, he enjoyed a happy and active life in retirement in Vasey. The family especially wishes to thank the staff of Hillcrest Village, Midland, for their devoted care. Visitation at Carson Funeral Homes-JH Lynn Chapel, 290 First St., Midland on Tuesday, May 24 from 2–4 and 7-9 pm. A mass in celebration of Bob’s life will be held at 11 am., Wednesday, May 25 at Mt. St. Louis Church, Line 4 N and Mt. St. Louis Rd., followed by a reception at the Church Hall. If desired, memorial donations may be made to the Red Cross Fort McMurray Fire Appeal.
