Remembering Mary Joyce Asselstine

(Mother, Teacher, Highland Dancer, Choreographer, and Rotarian)
Passed peacefully of pneumonia at Soldiers Memorial Hospital on Saturday December 13, 2014 in her 74th year.  Mary, loving wife to Reid (52 years), will be sadly missed by her son Albert “Ric”, her daughter-in-law Emma of Summerset, UK, by her grandchildren Alex, Zachri, and Maia, by her niece Pauline White and nephews Sandy Galloway and John Galloway. Mary taught primary grades for 30 years in Orillia. After many years as a competitive highland dancer & teacher, including dancing at the Edinburgh Scottish Festival , she choreographed and directed many musicals for the Mariposa Arts Theatre at the Orillia Opera House. She hosted many Rotary exchange students in her home. She went to India to help vaccinate children against polio and to the Dominica Republic to help those less fortunate. She will be sadly missed.  A celebration of Mary’s life will take place at St. Paul’s United Church on Wednesday December 17, 2014 at 11 o’clock. If desired, memorial donations may be made to the Rotary Foundation (Canada) and will be accepted by the Doolittle Chapel of Carson Funeral Homes, 54 Coldwater St. E. Orillia, (705) 326-3595.
