Remembering Arthur Read

Art passed away peacefully one day before his 84th birthday with loved ones at his side, while Liona Boyd played softly in the back ground.  Art had a long and varied career in hospital administration At Sarnia General Hospital and The Queen Elizabeth Hospital where he began many new programs; Candy Stripers, Raised flower beds for the patients to work in, and pet therapy for patients. He returned to private practice in 1974. Retiring from Federal Government at the age of 70. Nancy and Art were married for 64 years and raised 6 children. They were fortunate to be able to do a lot of travelling some with their children and some alone. The kids really liked their camping trips to Florida, the east coast and the West coast. Nancy and Art travelled to Europe several times and in later life enjoyed R.Ving. They retired to the Midland Bay Woods in 2003 and called it Gods country.  Loving husband to Nancy Ella Read (Foxworthy) for 64 years loving and very proud father to Susan (Ted Baker), Patricia, Tom (Suzanne Chen See), Christopher (partner Loraine Ducette) , Nancy Rodgers (deceased in 2006) Mary (Craig Adams).  Grandpa to Teddy, Jill, Danny, Peter, Robbie, Tim, Suzy, Alison, Christopher, Lindsay, Colin, Katy, Jamie, Nickolas, Jeffery, Sarah.  Great Grandpa to Natalie, Olivia, Mallory, Lilliana, Jack, Claire, Smith, Ben, Emma Nancy, and to be in January, Quinn.  Art always wanted to know "What was up with the family".  Brother to Dr. John Read and the late Dr. Wally Read from Exeter.  Second son to Dr. Art Read and Kay Read of London, Ontario.  I will never be able to thank the wonderful staff at Georgian Bay General Hospital enough for their kindness to Art and myself during the long summer’s months and into the Fall. Especially to Dr. Darwish and Julie and Kim in the new Palliative Care Unit.  Family will receive friends at Carson Funeral Homes – JH Lynn Chapel, 290 First Street, Midland (705) 526-6551 on Friday December 5, 2014 from 1pm till time of memorial service in the chapel at 2pm.  Memorial donations the Palliative Care Unit of G.B.G.H would be appreciated by the family if desired.
